Monkey Business Tablescape

Fun is the inspiration for this week's table - both Pat and I needed something to brighten up the day and this table definitely does that. The accent plate is called "Monkey" by American Atelier and was purchased years ago at an animal rescue thrift store.

Flatware is "Iron Brown" by Noritake - it was my everyday flatware for years

Pat's favorite "go-to" dinnerware because of the huge selection of colors available - "Fiesta(ware)" by Homer Laughlin. This is a "Shamrock" luncheon plate.

Another Winter Storm Post

Enough already! Two earthquakes ( one 6.4 and the "small" one 5.4), three "atmospheric river" storms that brought torrential rains for days on end, "bomb cyclones," massive flooding, huge landslides, major road closures, toppled giant redwoods, extensive power outages, and still in some areas, no access to safe drinking water not to mention the death and destruction that came with all of it. Can we get a break? The rain has stopped in the southern part of the state. It's our turn next....

Stop complaining. As Pat says, at least we have a roof over our heads (even though hers has a hole in it now and is on the waiting list to be replaced along with her driveway, and repairs to her water mains and to the damage to her new car...)  My sister - always the optimist. On to this week's table:

Adelaide Turquoise and Black Tablescape

This week's table was inspired by a fallen shelf due to the earthquake and what wasn't broken on it. While Pat was helping me clear depris from a cupboard (adjustable shelves slid down when the support pegs slipped out of their holes smashing the dishes underneath in a sandwich effect), she decided to use what dishes she could instead of trying to find somewhere to put them.

We've had the black square dinnerware for years. I started to buy is at Cost Plus which turned into World Market. Needless to say, it is still available.

Beating Back the Winter Blues Tablescape

Although the table this week is not a typical Winter's tablescape, looking at it sure helps fight back some of the January depression. What is termed "an atmospheric river" is slamming into California right now -  heavy rain, strong winds, and severe flood warnings throughout the state along with landslides, impassible roads and  hazardous surf warnings. To make matters worse, those houses that have been "yellow tag" due to the earthquake (livable but lots of damage) may not survive the damaging winds and storm. 

Well, while I still have power, I am going to post this week's table. 

I am not a big fan of Fiestaware, but this bright "Daffodil" does make me smile. I need that right now.

Better Late Than Never New Years Tablescape

Sorry this post is a bit late but "things" have been happening. With two major earthquakes within one week (one 6.4 and another one 5.4 and over 200 aftershock.) dozens of homes red-lined and deemed unsafe, days of power outages and no water, major rainstorms with massive flooding, and a very scary personal health event, once again life in rural coastal California is never dull.

Pat managed to set a table for the blog timely while sorting through two major destructive quakes, with no water, no power, no heat, dozen of garbage bags of destroyed family treasures and spending nine hours in the emergency room with me. I don't know how she does it.

I apologize for the weird wording and spelling - leftovers from my medical situation - but I wanted to post the table because I loved it.
