Blue Autumn Tablescape

I've said it before but I am not a big fan of the quintessential colors of fall - you know, the oranges, rusts, browns, and golds that are so much a part of the landscape during Autumn. In fact, I would just like to skip over Autumn/Halloween/Thanksgiving and move right into Christmas. I don't even mind if Costco has Christmas decorations already. [Full disclosure: I have already bought some Holiday "stuff" there....Yes!!!] But since this blog is shared with my Season-loving sister, we set Autumn tables.....

To appease and somewhat placate me, Pat set this week's Autumn table in blue and beige tones. Much better color choice.....

The centerpiece is just an assortment of blue and beige pumpkins

The squash and pumpkin accent plate is from Pier 1

Tallyho Tablescape

The mere idea of fox hunting is abhorrent to millions of people. Indeed, in England where fox hunting was considered a national sport, it was banned (a resounding 85% of the population when surveyed in 2017 thought the ban should continue and has since). But there is no harm to any animal to use "Tallyho" dinnerware ["Tallyho" is the cry that hunters call out when a fox is spotted which then begins the hunt] on a table.

Flatware is gold satin finish "Kyoto" by Holister

"Tallyho" by Fitz & Floyd was produced only a short time - from 1991 thru 1993

We found the "Tartan Plaid" dinnerware at Pier 1 during Christmas season a few years ago

Banned Books Week Tablescape

 "Any book worth banning is a book worth reading."  Isaac Asimov

I read banned books. I make it a deliberate undertaking. Every month I read at least one or two banned or challenged books - sometimes I have to work really hard to figure out why this book or that book was designated banned by some "authority" but I read it anyway.  I refuse to let someone tell me that I should not or cannot read a certain book. 

Thus, the theme for this week is "Banned Books." September 18th through the 24th is National Banned Book Week. Pat has been waiting months for this week to do a tablescape to highlight this inane, asinine restriction on people. 

At each place setting is a banned book. Of course, the "X" on the salad plate denotes rejection, danger, death - a sad state of affairs......

Pat made a centerpiece out of banned books held together by black alphabet bookends.

The dots on the spine of each book are my way of sorting books in my bookcases. "Yellow" means banned or challenged book/

Some of the books on the table - yes, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird is on several banned book lists. What??!!?  Even Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain has been banned in some places.....Others not in the picture include: Ulysses, The Color Purple, Of Mice and Men (one of my favorites), A Farewell To Arms, Gone With the Wind, The Lord of the Rings, and the list goes on......

Fall's Almost Here Tablescape

With Autumn just around the corner, it seems appropriate to slowly transition into Fall-like tablescapes. Pat chose Pier 1's "Danielle's Flowers" dinnerware and paired it with definitely Fall colors of orange, sage and rust. 

Although quite bold in color, the dinnerware can, as with most Pier 1 dishes, easily be used with many different color themes and seasons
