Franciscan Mariposa China

Pat took pity on me for this week's table. I have been collecting Franciscan's "Mariposa" china for a while and finally have enough pieces to set a table. While most people are familiar with their earthenware (especially the patterns "Apple," "Desert Rose," and "Ivy"), Franciscan fine china was actually quite popular during the 1950's and 1960's although Mariposa was not as well like and was only produced from 1949 through 1955.

Here's the table that Pat came up with:

Pat set a simple but quite elegant table highlighting the green on the plate.

The pattern looks equally as good with a pink or blue or purple charger

Confession time - I only have one cup and saucer.....for now. The hunt continues.....

An absolute favorite and "must have" in any tablescaping repertoire - inexpensive glasses from the Dollar Tree

I won Pat over (she usually likes simple design patterns on plates) with the shape of the creamer and sugar bowl.

Pat found this purple bowl in the back of my closet.....forgot I had it.

Fiesta Daffodil Table

With daffodils beginning to bloom all over the place, Pat decided it was time to set a table using our newest Fiesta(ware) color - "Daffodil." She paired it with black and gray.

Pat has never been afraid to mix colors....the more bold, the better.

Since Homer Laughlin does not make bread/butter plates anymore in the Fiesta(ware) pattern (much to my dismay), this is an appetizer plate with a salsa bowl on top.

One of my favorite glassware patterns, I found these at Replacements.com - they are "Jet Black" by Reizart.

I collect Fiesta(ware) bread and butter plates - this one is "Pearl Gray" (1999-2001)

Everyone recognizes the iconic Salt and Pepper shape of Fiesta(ware)

Fiesta(ware) and Bordallo Cabbage Table

Our daytime weather is suppose to "dip" into the 50's this weekend (yeah, I know........remember this is California) making a meal of soup the perfect choice. Pat decided to challenge herself to use one of her favorites (Homer Laughlin "Fiesta[ware]")and one of mine (Bordallo Pinheiro "Cabbage") to set this week's table.

My very own first set of flatware - "Iron Brown" by Noritake purchased in the 1970's. Thanks to Replacements and eBay, I have been able to replace missing and chipped pieces over the years (the handles are ceramic.)

Another purchase from the 1970's, the glassware is "Clarion" by Lenox. Obviously (and surprisingly), it is really sturdy.

The way we love bread around here, it's a wonder these lasted long enough for the picture. Pat took a glass cylinder and lined it with a brown napkin to serve the sourdough baguettes.
