International Women's Day Luncheon Tablescape

Around the world each year, March 8th is set aside to celebrate the political, economic, cultural, and social achievements of women and to raise awareness for women's equality. Since these are issues close to Pat's heart, she decided to set a table to commemorate the day using dinnerware in colors that symbolize the movement. Green symbolizes hope. Purple signifies dignity and justice. White represents purity. [The colors originated in the United Kingdom in 1908 from the Women's Social and Political Union.] The dinnerware that we own closes to these colors is "Pembroke" by Anysley. Granted, purple is not a featured color of the pattern, but it is as near as we could get.
Like most of our dinnerware collections, we acquired our set of "Pembroke" piece by piece from various places - Replacements.com, eBay, Thrift stores, Consignment stores, antique shops - anywhere we could find it. It is one of Pat's favorites.

The place setting is both feminine and simple.
Flatware is "King James" silverplace. It belonged to our Mother.

The charger is a bluish/lavender color. Pat's sweet husband found spray paint that went well with the dinnerware and painted eight inexpensive lacquer chargers for us.
The lace place mats are truly gorgeous. We bought them at a local store that sold all kinds of beautiful table linens. Sadly, it is now out of business

Glassware is "Fedora" by Spiegelau
The simple centerpiece represents women - Pat used two of our Mother's large Armani figurines - one on each side of a silk flower arrangement.

From the other end of the table

Where it came from:
Lace Place Mats - from a small, local Department store long out of business
Charger - Inexpensive lacquer chargers spray painted to match colors on the dinnerware
Dinnerware - "Pembroke" by Aynsley from anywhere we could find it
Glassware - "Fedora" by Spiegelau from Replacements.com
Flatware - "King James" silverplate by Oneida from our Mother
Napkin - from another local Department store long out of business
Silver Napkin Ring - from Art & Old Things (a local antique store)
Armani Figurines - from our Mother's collection

This week, we will be joining "Tablescape Thursday" at Between Naps on the Porch:  http://betweennapsontheporch.net/

  1. You write that this pattern is one of Pat's favorites. I had to smile because don't we all have so many favorites? I also have the King James silver plate flatware and enjoy it so much. I have found it to be versatile and we still feel special when we use it!

  2. What a beautiful table, with so much meaning. I love when you use your mother's figurines in your tablescapes and these two are stunning. I can see why this china pattern is a favorite, and I really like the lace placemats with it. Just lovely!

  3. Oh, Ladies! Your tables never disappoint! That china coupled with the chargers (the color is stunning) and your Mom’s figurines make this a perfect table for this time of year as we approach Easter and Mother’s Day. I love your lace place mats as well. It all just takes my breath away! Thank you for sharing.

  6. Chargers match the napkins and give the table a colorful punch that's not too frilly.
