Spode Buttercup Updated Tablescape

For this week's table, Pat took a page out of publisher Phyllis Hoffman's magazine, Southern Lady. Both Tea Time Magazine and Southern Lady are famous for their beautiful table settings. But most amazing is how they take old, classic dishware and "modernize" the place setting. Not always to my taste, the finished table is consistently a show stopper. 

Well, our table this week uses classic Spode "Buttercup" in a new and very updated way - with lots of color and pizazz (can "Buttercup" really has pizazz????)  Anyway, Pat mixed a very sweet, old fashioned pattern with updated yellow and green colors for what she called "something different." She was tired of the traditional blue or brown accent colors that she had always used. Time for a change.....

Over view of the table - put your sunglasses on.....I finally got Pat to use "Buttercup" on a tablescape for the blog. Instead of her typical elegant and refined place settings with this pattern, she uses bright yellow!!

Pat used simple glassware to "tone down" the color a bit

The soup tureen is one of Pat's prized pieces. For what she paid for it, I should have armed guards.....please, let there be no earthquakes until I return it.

One last look from the other end of the table. FYI - the three cream soup bowls and liners at this end of the table are mine. They are not vintage like all the other "Buttercup." You can't really tell from the picture, but if you see them and hold them, you can tell.

Smooth Sailing Tablescape

Pat must be thinking about water a lot lately (or lack of it)......she decided to do a "water" theme tablescape this week. She took an old sailing ship model that was in my garage and found some accent plates that we have and put them together to set this week's table.

As as promised last week, I am not going to mention water rationing or the fact that Los Angeles wasted 20 million gallons (yes, I said 20 MILLION gallons) of water in 3 1/2 hours because they did not turn a water leak off fast enough. Sorry, Pat, you still only get 50 gallons a day.......but I am not going to mention it this week........

So - think of clear skies, blue water, and lots of it....

The dinner plate is actually a rust color. It is called "Spice Route Paprika" from Pier 1

I love these odd glasses. They are called "Reflection" by Imperial Glass Company.

Pat used two luncheon napkins - rust and ivory held together by a "nautical" looking knot napkin ring

Pat didn't use the cup and saucer together on the table. However, she took the saucer and used it as a bread and butter plate.
