Let's Dish April Challenge

This week, we are participating in Cuisine Kathleen's April Blog Challenge ( The theme is Birds, Nests, and/or Eggs. Pat wanted to try a non-traditional bird tablescape (i.e something other than cute birds, eggs, nests, and bright colors) and this is what she came up:
Over view of the table

The place setting

Flatware is "Grand Colonial" Sterling by Wallace

Close up of the "stack"

First layer of the place setting is a modern square crystal soup bowl

The salad plate was placed across the dinner plate to show it off

Pat used a line-etched water goblet with a black wine and champagne glass

The ornate Depressionware candlesticks hold turquoise tapers that match the dinnerware

To carry the bird theme out, Pat used black wire nest-like basket votive holders and black tea lights

The black wire bird cage holds a flower arrangement

The bread/butter plate is actually Black Fiesta by Homer Laughlin

One last look from the other end of the table

  1. You always have such grace and symmetry to your tables....Love the blue Adelaide Dinnerware!

  2. Love the black place mat as the contrast to your china! The black centerpiece adds even more drama! Your aqua and white patterned china is perfect for the bird challenge! have lovely week!

  3. Beautifully done! I haven't seen that color in those dishes (I have the yellow and a blue/white mix). I like the mix of the turquoise with the black. Cute bird card!

  4. Very nice table. The birdcage centerpiece brings things together nicely. Love the dishes and that color with black...

  5. You just amaze me with all your beautiful the center piece!

  6. Very elegant with the black and turquoise! The little metal votive "nests" help carry the theme perfectly. Linda

  7. Love this table...very striking color scheme! I have been coveting those dishes for quite some time and may end up breaking down and getting some for myself.

  8. I love your dishes and how you paired them with black stems and black mats.Very striking.

How nice to co blog with your sister. That would be fun.

  9. I just love black as a neutral!!! It really helps to better showcase all the color used! Pat made a really bold and wonderful decision when she decided to use black with a relatively non-traditional Easter color. It still has a very Easter-y vibe, but a high sophistication, too. Spectacular!!! I like this way of thinking!

  10. So striking and different! Love the black and turquoise and with the birdcage, birds on the plates and little "nest" tealight holders, you really have created a unique twist on an Easter tablescape!

  11. I've been so tempted to add this beautiful toile pattern to my stash several times. So glad to find it used so perfectly for Kathleen's challenge. Thanks for inviting us for a peek. Cherry Kay

  12. One of the prettiest tables I have seen this year! Great color combo.

  13. There's something so elegant about black & turquoise. Your tablescape is so lovely.

  14. The 222 plates are perfect for Kathleen's challenge and the birdcage centerpiece is a striking compliment with the black stemware. So lovely and elegant in aqua and black.

  15. Oh, ladies, how creative you are! Your table is elegant and striking with the color combination you have chosen. Your accent pieces all work so well to reflect your contemporary reflection of an Easter theme. Well Done, as always! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  16. Stunning! Elegant and sophisticated, but the plates and birds add that touch of whimsy. Works so well with your beautiful chairs. Great job. Dianne

  17. Modern and traditional -- the perfect marriage in a tablescape. I love the freshness of the color and the unexpected jolt of the black neutral. Lovely!

  18. What a pretty table! Such an interesting color combo. The dishes are beautiful!
    Thanks for taking the challenge!

  19. I've seen those plates so often at the various TJ Maxx affiliates and just love them. You're table, as usual, is absolutely beautiful!
