Every year, on the anniversary of his passing, Pat likes to recognize the truly iconic American kitschy-artist and inventor, Don Featherstone [1936-2015], winner of the IG Nobel Prize and the hearts of millions of people. "Who is he" you ask? Why, he is the inventor/creator of the plastic pink flamingo. And what is the IG Nobel Prize? It's a humorous and slightly satirical award [the IG stands of "ignoble"] to "honor the achievements that first make people laugh, and then make them think." ReplyDeleteI love this! My table is actually set with flamingos right now, too - my granddaughter loves them and I'm hoping she will get to visit me in the next few weeks so she can enjoy it. I found some melamine plates at Home Goods a couple of years ago, and got some (inexpensive) flamingo salt/pepper shakers and cute mugs at a local shop recently. Now I have another reason to set a flamingo table this time of year. :-)
