Veteran's Day Tablescape

This week's tablescape is a personal one for Pat and me. It's not really out of the ordinary or extravagant. It's just a simple but hopefully nice table that Pat did to commemorate all Veterans - especially our Dad. Like most Veterans returning from World War II, our Dad was proud of his time in service to America. Here's to you, Dad.
Over view of the table

The place setting

Pat chose simple flatware to carry the theme through - this is "King James" Silverplate by Oneida

First layer of the place setting is a small soup bowl with white liner

The salad plate is by Bormioli and matches the charger

The thin, white dinner plate is "Racine" by Hutschenreuther

The glass charger

Red, "white," and blue glassware

Crystal candle holders

Pat, somehow, always has me ironing - I folded the napkins

Our Dad's flag - to be removed and replaced with a bouquet of flowers before the meal

One last look from the other end of the table
Where it came from:
Flatware - King James Silverplate by Oneida from out Mother
Blue Glass Plates and Bowls - by Bormioli from Eureka Natural Foods (a really great "hippie" store) and Ross Dress [and Set Your Table] For Less
White Dinner and Bread/Butter Plates - "Racine" by Hutschenreuther from eBay and Replacements
Red and Blue Stemmed Goblets - Pier 1
Trumpet Champagne Glasses - eBay
Crystal Candle Holders - from our collection
Candles - Michael's
Salt/Pepper Sets - "Alexandria" by Crystal Clear from Tuesday Morning

We will be joining Cuisine Kathleen's "Let's Dish" this Wednesday:  http://www.cuisinekathleen.com/

  1. I love the simple elegance and special significance of this table. I've never seen a napkin fold like that before -- is it hard to do? I'm not at all skillful at things like that but would love to try!

    1. I look forward to your comments so much! You will never know how much they have inspired Pat and me. As for the fold, luckily, I have a talented sister who showed me how to fold napkins (and a mother who made me iron....Pat is "keeping up the tradition" by the way.....) It's easy to do - quarter the napkin, roll three of the layers to the center, turn it over, then fold in thirds. And iron like crazy!

  7. How nice to honor your dad -I did not think of doing a patriotic table and we celebrate Veterans Day big at our house -my husband is a Desert Storm Vet and it's my son's birthday! Jennifer

  8. I too have my daddy's 50 and my Uncle Bill's 48 star flags. What a special way you've honored your dad and reminded the rest of us that more than turkeys and Christmas trees are coming up. Keeping the emphasis where it belongs, I'm going to follow your example and make a modest tabletop tribute to them and all veterans, including my Vietnam-era husband. I do regularly enjoy both of your blogs.
