Memorial Day Tablescape

With anticipation and joy, the idea of sharing a Memorial Day meal with the family has finally become a reality. Here in California, facial masks are still required indoors but not at your residence - and, best of all, everyone who will be attending has been vaccinated. So, we are "good to go" as they say - safe and protected. 

We are using a Memorial Day red, white, and blue table that Pat's daughter set for us. She was inspired by the paisley napkins and her love of Fiesta dinnerware. 

Although the table is set somewhat more formal, the meal will actually be a barbeque. We are just  celebrating getting together after a very long time.... 

The small covered soup tureen will actually hold baked beans. It sits on a "Scarlett" Fiesta(ware) bread and butter plate that acts as a liner.

The next layer is a "White" Fiesta(ware) salad plate.

This is a "Lapis" luncheon plate - Jennifer used a matching bread and butter plate for the place setting

The dinner plate (acting as a charger) is "Scarlett" Fiesta(ware

And last is a Maryland China charger

The red goblet is from Pier 1 years ago - the water glass is from the Dollar Tree

Springtime Black and White Tablescape

 A "Black and White" tablescape is not a typical theme for Spring, but Pat thought it would be fun to play with - so she came up with a simple table for this week's blog that relies more on form than color to make it interesting.

Pat went back and forth about adding some additional accent color (by filling the centerpiece bowl) but in the end, decided she wanted a less "complicated" table and used only black and white

Flatware is "Primary" by Noritake

The first layer of the place setting is a white soup bowl - this one is from Target's "Home" collection

Pat found these inexpensive accent plates at Ross years ago - then she found similar material and made matching napkins

This is a "White" Fiesta(ware) luncheon plate. It sits on a Black "Fun Factory" dinner plate by Waechtersbach

Always a "go to" favorite (mine - not Pat), the charger is from Maryland China Company

Actually Anytime Autumn Tablescape

Pat's daughter, Jennifer, was here this weekend and we spent one entire day playing with dishes. I had a huge  basket full of different napkins, stacks of assorted plates, all kinds of flatware, and napkins rings all over the place just waiting to be used as "inspiration" for the day. And did we ever use them! It was great fun.

Here in Humboldt County, our Autumn is usually unbearably hot - and, lately, with record breaking high temperatures. We don't have the traditional beautiful "color changes" that some parts of the country have since we have lots of Redwoods and Douglas Fir which stay green all year. So, when we found these really inexpensive napkins at LinenTablecloth.com two years ago, we never planned to use  them for only one season.  

The purple crackle glassware is from Pier 1 several years ago

These very inexpensive plates were on the "reduced" shelf at our local supermarket several years ago. We bought them and the matching 12 dinner plates for less than $8.00.

The dinner plate is discontinued "Heather" Fiesta(ware) [2006-2008] by Homer Laughlin. Unfortunately, we do not own a matching bread and butter plate in this color so Jennifer used a "Mulberry" [active pattern introduced in 2018] appetizer plate

The charger is a "White" Fiesta(ware) chop plate (yes, I know, it looks gray but, once again, it is overcast and dark outside)

Springtime Bee Tablescape

On a whim, Pat pulled out our Pottery Barn "Bee" plates that we found several years ago on eBay and decided to do a Spring "Bee" tablescape this week.

With no rain predicted - just overcast skies and lots of cold, north winds - this bright and cheerful table brings lots of needed light to the room

The bread and butter plates are actually Fiesta(ware) appetizer plates. (Homer Laughlin stopped making bread and butter plates several years ago - much to my dismay since I collected them.)
