Christmas Eve Tablescape

Local folks are ecstatic - the crab fishermen settled on a price and there is crab aplenty for Humboldt County residents' traditional Christmas Eve meal:  crab, crusty sourdough bread, and lots of beer. Our county is fortunate enough to have a fabulous local sourdough bread (our area has San Francisco's famous sourdough making climate.) Now, those of us [me] "more informed" and "environmentally conscious" [i.e. vegetarian] will be having a tofu burrito with black beans, cilantro,  and homemade salsa...yummy........either way, we will be enjoying family and friends together.

Here's the table Pat designed for the event:
Over view of the table - yes, that's right, a crab shell on the plate......

The place setting - Pat boiled and scrubbed the shells. Like all tablescapers, she will do what it takes to make the table "just right."

Santa

Flatware is "Everyday" by Reed & Barton - very sleek and simple

The dinner plate is vintage cobalt blue Fiesta - it's a little lighter than the "new" Cobalt and matches Santa's outfit perfectly

Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer was chosen for the color of the label - not the flavor

Naturally, Pat had to use Crab napkin rings

Love the detail on Santa

Pat wanted just a minimum amount of ornaments on the trees

One last look from the other end of the table
Where it came from:

White Charger - mail order from Maryland China
Dinnerware - Fiesta by Homer Laughlin from Macy's, Replacements, and eBay
Flatware - "Everyday" by Reed & Barton from Bed, Bath, and Beyond

Crab Napkin Ring - from the Ferndale Emporium (a neat local boutique)
Beer Pilsner - Dollar Store
Tree, Ornaments, Starfish, and Fish Net - Michael's
Glass Balls - Pier 1
Crab Santa - Pierson's Building Supply (our local hardware store that goes all out for Christmas each year)
Crab Shells - courtesy of Pat and her husband's Gym buddy who is retired and now fishes for fun

We will be joining Cuisine Kathleen's "Let's Dish" this Wednesday:  http://www.cuisinekathleen.com/

We hope that you have a wonderful Holiday shared with lots of family and friends. Merry Christmas, everyone.

  1. My husband would feel right at home at your table, ladies -- he is an aquatic ecologist who studies crustaceans, including crabs! In fact, our Fourth of July table looked very similar to this, as we had crab cakes for that holiday courtesy of my brother who lives in Baltimore. Pat is definitely more of a perfectionist than I am, though -- I admire her greatly for that crab shell preparation! I have a feeling my husband would be happy to change our tradition of vegetarian tamales for Christmas Eve to a crab feast instead, but we will be having our seafood on Christmas day, so he really can't complain too much! Happy Holidays to you and yours!

    1. Both Pat and I wish you and your family the most Merry Christmas. You have been such a generous and kind person with all your wonderful comments. We are truly blessed to "know you" (even if it is just electronically.) And.......kudos for the vegetarian tamales!

  5. I'm a little late but I'm having fun catching up on your past tables. I have those same napkin rings but the store got them at only had three, next time I'm cruising through Ferndale... hahaha I haven't been there since I left HSU in the 80's.
