Grammar school days

Back to school.....just the thought sends shivers up my spine (and I have been out of school for more than 45 years.) Call it sympathetic, call it crazy - I just remember the "feeling" of going back to the books. Once I got there, it wasn't bad. In fact, it was always fun, but the anticipation, the anxiety, the fear was real. So, to help get over that feeling, Pat helped me create a couple of tablescapes to honor students around the county (yes, I said county. We feature local High Schools in the second tablescape.) But this one is for all the Grammar school kids.

I'm sure you've heard this one before, but my Grammar school was the best. I was so lucky to get great teachers (my favorite? Mrs. Green, my second grade teacher), a wonderful principal (Mr. Bryant), a very funny and wonderful custodian/bus driver (Mr. Mitchell seemed to do everything including mow the lawns), and a wonderful school secretary (Mrs. Roberts). Funny, you never forget the good things..........
Over view of the table using a small yellow bowl to hold an apple.

The table without the yellow bowls.

Close up of the place setting. The yellow bowl is from Waechtersbach.

The salad plate is cobalt blue Fiestaware from Homer Laughlin.

This is a "sunshine yellow" luncheon plate in Fiestaware by Homer Laughlin.

An oversized red dinner plate by Waechtersbach serves as the charger.

These chubby and chunky glasses by Libby work well with the setting.

Pat used plain brown lunch bags for name tags.

Plain PVC pipe cut into 1/2" rounds make great, inexpensive napkin rings. Spray paint them any color.

The large ABC's are from Michael's and painted in coordinating colors.

Sorry, we couldn't help it - Nancy Drew mysteries were our favorite books when we were young.

Have a great year!
