The Ghost and Mrs. Muir Table

It's no wonder that Pat decided to pay homage to her favorite romantic fantasy movie this week when I asked her to use our Wedgwood "Flying Cloud" dinnerware. It's a beautiful white and rust pattern that was made from 1969 through 1993 featuring a historic clipper ship in the center. Pat immediately thought of Captain Gregg, sea captain and owner of Gull Cottage who died there years before Mrs. Muir arrived and "won his heart." The movie - "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (1947) - is still charming and heart warming after all these years.....

Pat used "Colonial Copper" from Horchow's because it's rustic and masculine

The antiqued copper chargers were a gift to me from Pat's daughter

Pat decided not use the cup and saucer but I wanted to show the neat shape

Another one of our bargains - found on the sale rack at Pier 1 a couple years ago

Of course - Captain Gregg

From the other end of the table
Where it came from:
Copper Chargers - by Sur La Table (a gift from my niece)
Copper Flatware - "Colonial Copper" from Horchow's two or three years ago
Dinnerware - "Flying Cloud" by Wedgwood from eBay and Replacements
Glassware - "Picardy" from Pier 1 last year
Glass Floats - from TJMaxx and Pier 1 over the years
Brass Lanterns and Captain Gregg Figurine - from Pat's collection
Armani Figurine - from our Mother's collection

  1. This table is delightful! I like the fact that you set a nautical table using very little of the ubiquitous blue. The rust, copper and white color combination is fresh and unexpected. Your copper flatware and chargers are lovely. And "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" is one of my favorite movies too! Gene Tierney is such a great actress, and also stars in "Laura", another of my favorites. You've inspired me to think about using movies as table setting themes now!

  3. Oh, Ladies, by far, this is one of my favorite tables you've done (and you know what a loyal follower I am!) Maybe it's because I love the movie, "The Ghost and Mrs Muir"; or, maybe it's because your "Flying Cloud" dishes are making me swoon! But your chargers, your flatware, your statues: everything is wonderul!! Thank you for sharing this very special tablescape! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  4. Serious crush on the flatware! Love it. I hate to admit this but I have never seen that movie. I am going to hunt for it on amazon and watch it now. You've got me intrigued about it.

  5. What a perfect choice for a table using these dishes! And I love the glass balls in the centerpiece, giving just a little color but totally in keeping with your theme.

  6. One of my favorite movies of all time and also one of my favorite dish patterns! What a great combination. I think I will pull out my Flying Cloud and put on the DVD of Ghost and Mrs. Muir and have dinner. You two are great!

  7. My Mom had lady figurine. It stood on a thin wooden pedestal. Turning the key underneath made her slowly rotate and played music box style tune for about 60 secs. This table is gorgeous and really brings back memories!
