Franciscan Mariposa China

Pat took pity on me for this week's table. I have been collecting Franciscan's "Mariposa" china for a while and finally have enough pieces to set a table. While most people are familiar with their earthenware (especially the patterns "Apple," "Desert Rose," and "Ivy"), Franciscan fine china was actually quite popular during the 1950's and 1960's although Mariposa was not as well like and was only produced from 1949 through 1955.

Here's the table that Pat came up with:
Pat set a simple but quite elegant table highlighting the green on the plate.

The pattern looks equally as good with a pink or blue or purple charger

Confession time - I only have one cup and saucer.....for now. The hunt continues.....

An absolute favorite and "must have" in any tablescaping repertoire - inexpensive glasses from the Dollar Tree

I won Pat over (she usually likes simple design patterns on plates) with the shape of the creamer and sugar bowl.

Pat found this purple bowl in the back of my closet.....forgot I had it.
Pat made small matching arrangements on each side of the centerpiece using Wedgwood "Edme" cream soup bowls

One last look from the other end of the table
Where it came from:
Chargers - from Pier 1 three years ago
Dinnerware - "Mariposa" by Franciscan from where ever I could find it
Flatware - Green "Sofia" by Hampton from TJMaxx
Glassware - from the Dollar Store years ago (but still available)
Candle Holders - from eBay
Small arrangement bowls - "Edme" cream soups bowls by Wedgwood from eBay
Purple Centerpiece footed bowl - from my closet (I have not idea where it came from - old age???)
Olive Green Napkins - from Target years ago

We will be joining the following Blog parties this week:
"Dishing It! & Digging It!" at Rustic & Refined this Sunday:  http://www.rustic-refined.com/

  6. I love botanical things so these dishes are right up my alley! I wouldn't have guessed that the pattern dates back that far. I hope you can find more cups and saucers. This table definitely says spring!

  7. What a beautiful, fresh tablescape! I love the china and would never have guessed it was from the early '50. It looks like a much more recent design. Also, love your candle holders and footed bowl. Lovely table. Thanks for brining this to us.

  9. Wow! Love that Franciscan China pattern. Who knew they may anything beyond that old ivy, apple and desert rose? Well you did - I'm afraid you'll have more competition for it now that you have let me in on this beautiful secret. I've already checked out e-bay and Replacements. Off to see if there is any lurking on Etsy. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous collection of tableware each week on Between Naps on the Porch. Your tablescapes are always among my favorites but this one has triggered a severe case of China envy.

  10. Oh, Ladies, be still my heart! I do believe this table could be my favorite table you have ever created (and I am quite a fan, so I've viewed almost every one you've done!!) Green is my favorite color, but when you accent it with purple and some of the most beautiful plates I have ever seen, you absolutely make my jaw drop. Bravo to you both!!
