December Challenge

It's time for Cuisine Kathleen's December Challenge ( http://www.cuisinekathleen.com/) to find a tablescape from a magazine or from Pinterest and then copy it. Pat decided to use a picture from The Cottage Journal Season: Christmas, a Hoffman Media publication. As usual, she took "liberties" with the challenge, but the final table was not only fun to do, but turned out better than expected.
The inspiration tablescape - red placemats and gold chargers show off the place setting.

Our table - Pat decided on a red Brocade tablecloth, gold Poinsettia placemats, and red chargers

Three reindeer, instead of two, and heavy, real glass ornaments from Restoration Hardware add a touch of class

The place setting

Pat and I "hit the Motherlode" when we found these ornaments several years ago. The store, which began in our small community, had exploded nationwide and left our area as they expanded, but we took advantage of the closing sale.

"Holiday" by Lenox - our Mother started buying this pattern years ago and we continue to add to the set

Pat couldn't bring herself to put the cup and saucer on the left side of the dinner plate as in the picture

From the other end of the table
Where it came from:
Red Brocade Tablecloth - from our collection
Gold Poinsettia Placemat - from Bed, Bath, and Beyond two or three years ago
Dinnerware - "Holiday" by Lenox from our Mother
Red Glitter Charger - Pier 1
Glassware - "Omega" Marquis by Waterford
Gold plated Flatware - by F.B. Rogers from eBay
Gold Crackle and Ruby Ornaments - from Restoration Hardware several years ago
Gold Reindeer and Greenery - from Michael's

  1. Applause, applause, applause!!! You guys really knocked this one out of the ballpark! The "liberties" taken were well worth it for the final look. Your reindeer look quite regal prancing around in the centerpiece! And I love the Restoration Hardware glass ornaments. We have a RH here in the Kansas City area, and I just love to go in there and browse. They have wonderful stuff!!! I have those gold ornaments that are in your bowls in silver. I've not had a chance to use them, but I know they're there just waiting...waiting...waiting. I notice your gold poinsettia placemats, too. My sister bought me a dozen of them after Christmas last year, and I'm anxious to use them, too. I've been lazy this year! :-)

Outstanding job again, ladies! You met the challenge head on!!!

  12. Beautiful!!! No doubt about it! You used the overall flavor and essence of the inspiration table and created an even more outstandingly beautiful table. I like the three deer on the table - it offers so much more balance to the table. The ornaments that you scored bring a wonderful bling factor that takes this table several notches beyond the inspiration table. Beautiful, simply beautiful !
