Kitsch And Fiestaware Tablescape

Every year, on the anniversary of his passing, Pat likes to recognize the truly iconic American kitschy-artist and inventor, Don Featherstone [1936-2015], winner of the IG Nobel Prize and the hearts of millions of people. "Who is he" you ask? Why, he is the inventor/creator of the plastic pink flamingo. And what is the IG Nobel Prize? It's a humorous and slightly satirical award [the IG stands of "ignoble"] to "honor the achievements that first make people laugh, and then make them think." You can find a list of IG winners at this site: Here. 

Pat has set a few tables over the years using our plastic pink flamingos and plastic flamingo plates - so this is just another week of "plastics" to celebrate our favorite pop culture hero.

Summer Spode Tower Table

Time for a more formal table - Pat chose Spode Pink Tower to use this week. The original pink pattern was first produced in 1920 and is still active. (Blue Tower was introduced in 1814 and has been produced in a variety of colors over the years and is still going strong.)

No charger this week (which is unusual for Pat)

Flatware is "Grand Colonial" sterling silver - I've told you before that we were gifted this gorgeous flatware by our amazing "also dish-addicted" Cousin. 

In addition to giving us the flatware, our Cousin "started" us on Spode Pink Tower. I always wanted it but was too cheap to invest in the dinnerware - so our Cousin once again gave us our first pieces.

Sizzling Pink and Lemongrass Tablescape

Once again, blazing forest fires and sweltering heat mark another Summer in Northern California. Pat wanted to set a table to bring indoors some of that "sizzling" feeling to this week's table. Using a napkin that she made several years ago as the inspiration for the color theme, Pat went to work.

Pat used Fiesta(ware) "Lemongrass" and "White" dinnerware.

Flatware is "Sculpt" by Lenox. We found it at Tuesday Morning (when we had a Tuesday Morning store in our area) years ago

You can see from the napkin where Pat picked up the colors. The white napkin inside is the one that guest will actually use.

The dinner plate is "Lemongrass" Fiesta(ware.) The matching bread and butter plate is actually a Fiesta(ware) appetizer plate.

Thanks to Pat's wonderful husband, we have coordinating hot pink chargers. They are inexpensive lacquer chargers (found at any Dollar Store or Thrift store) and spray painted with plastic adhesive paint.

Casual Pfaltzgraff Naturewood Tablescape

Just when I thought I had seen the last of the nostalgic tablescapes, my also "dish-addicted" Cousin Trev stopped by to visit and, naturally, play with dishes....on a whim (and a challenge from me) to use a set of glasses that have been around my house for over twenty years, he pulled together a tablescape from dinnerware that I own and haven't used in years. What fun it is to see them on the table again!

The pattern is "Naturewood" by Pfaltzgraff. It was first produced in 1997 and is currently active.

Flatware is "Antique Copper Twig." I always say that it looks really neat but is very uncomfortable to actually  use. It is from Black Forest Decor (mail order.)

The glasses are "Clarion Green" by Libby - our Mother bought them for me as "extras" - you can tell how long ago because she bought them at Montgomery Ward (our local store closed in 1999.)

The cup and saucer are the quintessential Pfaltzgraff shape. The pattern comes in mugs too.

The simple centerpiece is composed of greenery and a collection of sage green ceramics
