Lenox The Colonial Tablescape

Pat and I are fortunate to own a truly beautiful set of older dinnerware - "The Colonial" [1920-1948] by Lenox. It has elegant flower swags and urns on a blue and yellow rim. Pat decided to play up green instead of the usual blue color on the plate for this week's table. She used sage green chargers and inexpensive sage glassware to bring out the color.

For the centerpiece, Pat used simple greenery so attention would be on the place setting and dish pattern

The sage green glass chargers are from Pier 1. 

Flatware is "Byzantine" by Yamazaki

Pat tried several different goblets but kept going back to one of her favorites - from the Dollar Tree

Apricot and Gray Tablescape

Last weekend, Pat's daughter Jennifer was here visiting. We spent Saturday afternoon "playing" with dishes and creating different place settings and tablescapes. What fun!! She even managed to set both tables for our blogs while she was here.....

Set for six this week, the table provides plenty of room for dinner guests

Flatware is hammered "Castello" stainless steel by Godinger.

Pat and I bought this neat set of dinnerware at Pier 1 a few months ago

To make the table a bit more "sweet" and feminine, Jennifer used apricot linen 

This "Faience Gray" charger by Christofle has become quite a workhorse in our collection of chargers

Celebrating Dairy Month Cow Table

June is National Dairy Month. Pat's husband was raised on a dairy farm and grew up loving dairy products. So this week's table is set to celebrate cows - particularly black and white Holsteins......

[Vegan disclaimer, family oddball, and supporter of non-dairy milks and cows everywhere:  I haven't had a glass of milk since I was a child. Non-dairy milks are a healthy, environmentally sound, cruelty free, and economical choice for people with dietary or other intolerance restrictions or for those so enlighten who wish to avoid the hormones, pesticides, antibiotics and contaminants in the white lactation secretions Nature intended for a calf. Sorry, I just can't help myself....]

To make me "less annoyed" at the dairy month theme, Pat decided to set a more formal table to celebrate the beautiful Holstein.

The centerpiece is flanked on each end by arrangements of silk roses

Pat used both a black and a white napkin held by a simple black napkin ring and decorated it with a single, silk apricot rose

The charger is "Color Spectrum" by Mikasa

Pat used black glassware to coordinate with the black and white theme

Mikasa Kabuki Tablescape

Who says you can't set a nice table cheaply? Pat went about to prove that you could. She set this week's table using a set of Mikasa "Kabuki" (1978-1985) that she bought at a thrift store a few years ago for under $30. In fact, the entire table uses only inexpensive, gift, or free items.

Pat started with a mint green tablecloth from Linentablecloth.com (a really neat site for inexpensive tablecloths). This one was under $6.00

Coordinating rust chargers are actually inexpensive plastic chargers found at Michael's after season for less than fifty cents each and spray painted with plastic adhesive Krylon Spray paint.

The entire set of Mikasa "Kabuki" dinnerware for eight was less than $30.00 (we did purchase a few extra things to add more pieces to the set)

The sterling silver flatware - Wallace "Grand Colonial" - was a fabulous gift from our similarly dish addicted cousins Trev and Gary

Pat found the silver napkin rings for less than a dollar each at a local antique store - all they needed was a good polish

Goblets are Pat's favorite go-to simple Dollar Tree glasses

The beautiful silver bowl holding the silk flowers is from a local restaurant that closed and the owner didn't want it anymore.
